Adele’s “Hello” is a really beautiful song
I don’t like Adele much. I tend not to like people or things that are overhyped, and very few things are as hyped as much as Adele is in my opinion. That’s not all though, I also don’t like her name, with its dubious pronunciation. Don’t lie, you probably still consciously have to remember the right pronunciation each time you say it.
Then there’s the chance that I’m just jealous, after all, I haven’t been able to turn any heartbreak into a single kobo, and there she is, making millions of dollars off her pain.
My hating and pettiness aside, for the first time in forever, I’m actually looking forward to an Adele album, thanks to her first single “Hello,” which to be frank, is one of the best songs I’ve heard this year, and also the first Adele song I have liked at first listen.
The song, seems to pick up from the general theme of 21, as she sings
“Hello, it’s me/I was wondering if after all these years, you’d like to meet/To go over everything/ They say that time’s supposed to heal you/But I ain’t done much healing”
over a sprinkling of intense strings, it seems like the same story all over again, this time from the retrospective view of someone a bit wiser. Since 21, she’s become a mother, and you get the feeling that the experience has changed a few things; not her voice though, she still belts notes with a perfection that can be annoying sometimes…na only her waka come?
She says in her letter:
“My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one, I would call it a make-up record. I am making up with myself. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did and never did. Turning 25 was a turning point for me, slap bang in the middle of my twenties. Teetering on the edge of being an adolescent and a fully fledged adult.”
I like this Adele.
The song was good enough to get me to dust off the cobwebs on here, so you should definitely check it out. The video is dope as well.
Let me know what you think.
